Michele Schultz 1. Does the accounting in the office. 2. Gets to the office at 5 a.m. 3. Her son just committed to playing college baseball.

Ryan Stephenson 1. Very proud of his hometown - Rock Hill, SC. 2. Used to be a competitive swimmer at Rock Hill High School. 3. Used to have a very cool mustache.

Don Roberts 1. Completed an ironman competition. 2. Recently adopted his third cat, a Brazilian shorthair named, Coco. 3. Currently has the lowest body fat in the office.

James Lipp 1) Recently invested in a Capillus® and has to wait 12 months for results. 2) Used to compete in college sailing. 3) Drives around with a sail boat on top of his car.

Thomas Hughes 1. Just moved off the island to his new home in Mount Pleasant. 2. Has three kids and is currently working on his fourth! 3. Enjoys playing soccer in his free time.

Ekaterina Rubtsova 1. Teaches Cross-Fit after work. 2. Goes by E-Kat at the office. 3. Does not use a headset at the office.

EDI is the hidden department of IT. Most people don’t know who the EDI team is or that they exist. They are a quirky group with years of IT experience. They might seem like your typical IT group that you see on TV, but there’s more to them than meets the eye. Now that I am a part of the EDI team, I’ll try to give some insight into the people that work behind the scenes on a lot of ALX and TMS projects for the Allen Lund Company.

Keith Curtis: The Boss

Keith is the captain of the department, leading the team to make deadlines and taking the hits when EDI goes down. Years ago he started in desktop support, travelling the states with Craig Borzelliere and Bryan Wolford working on new office installations and moves. After that he spent a couple of years in Canada for the TMS implementation of Sofina, returning to Corporate because his visa expired. As

dedicated as he is to his job, he currently spends his free time building retro arcade systems or converting his garage into a VR space because sometimes the real world isn’t exciting enough. But don’t be fooled with his nerdy free time, he is still an outdoorsman at heart: paddle boarding, camping, and travelling to Alaska to check out the Aurora Borealis. Soon, he is going to Japan to add to his world adventures while trying not to act like a kid in a candy store with the Japanese high-end technology.

Michael Wilson : Mutech

Michael started as a consultant for ALC in 1983, became a full-time employee in 1998 and is still going strong. The best dressed person in the company, always with a tie and jacket on, he helped create what ALX is today. He may talk to you in tech speak or reference things far before your time, but he always provides the answers we need to get the job done. He is a mental history book of the old processes this

company used before ALX was created and can still remember every technological change we’ve made to this day. He saw Bill Gates demonstrate the first version of Microsoft Word on the Apple Lisa at COMDEX in 1983 and took a week off to attend Burning Man in 2017. Every night Michael makes plans for taking over the world.

Yuan Jiang: The Man, the Myth, the Legend

Yuan is the other half that helped create ALX. If ALX is not working, he’s pretty much the one to fix it with his infamous reply, “please try again” and most of the time it’s fixed. Though it may be difficult to talk to him sometimes, he is our favorite person to talk to. With his “hmm” and “wha” replies when we ask him a question, he always finds a way to get the job done. He actually worked with Chetan at another

company before coming to ALC. Not long after Chetan started here, he convinced Yuan to join ALC and as they say, the rest is history. With the abundant amount of information he has to spare, all of us in IT have much to learn from him. Though it may not seem like it, Yuan too, is a bit of a gamer himself. He’s played Call of Duty and Battlefield on Xbox, but still refuses to go online for multiplayer. Pretty sure he doesn’t want to put me to shame.

Carey Iwahashi: The Joker

Very few people in the company know who Carey is, and that includes people working at Corporate. He is the EDI member that works far behind the computer screen helping to make sure the files sent to and from our customers are arriving correctly while making system stability improvements. He’s kind of like the class clown of the department while being one of the hardest workers. He used to work at Konami

(a video game company) in EDI and as you can guess, he’s a bit of a gamer himself. When he’s not working on an EDI project, he is either remodeling his house, assisting his daughter on video game inspired costumes, cruising on his motorcycle, or writing restaurant reviews for Yelp. There is probably more that he does on his free time, but you would have to ask him yourself…at your own risk.

Jill Smith: Team Mom

Another person in the company that is not well known outside of IT and TMS is Jill. She and Carey are two sides of the same coin. A mom that can do it all: working on TMS projects for Costco and KIK while taking her kids to all of their sporting events. She can develop onboard data integrations for ALX, EDI, and TMS customers while still attending her kid’s

games. With 20 years in the EDI industry, she was a consultant for ALC for years before becoming full-time. Though she works from home in Tennessee, it’s always fun hearing her dog, Dixie chime in every once in a while during our conference calls. From spending time on a lake waterskiing barefoot to checking out Dolly Parton last October to cheering for her local sports teams, the Tennessee Volunteers and Nashville Predators, she is far from the norm of what you would think of a typical IT person.

Marvin Manuel: The New Guy and Still the Gamer

The only thing new about me since the Desktop Support article in the October 2018 FreightVine is that I have moved to EDI. Keith, as they say, made me an offer I could not refuse. I’ve been in this department for about two months and now have a better understanding of what EDI is and who the people are that run it. There’s a lot to learn in what feels like a

short time but I fit in just fine with this group of nerds, so learning from them isn’t that bad. To cope with the amount of information that they are trying to download into my head, I still keep up with my hobbies when I finally get to leave for the day. I am making plans to head to Wondercon later this year and am going to some punk rock shows since I failed to attend any last year. PC gaming still eats up most of my time, but I’m pretty sure the longer I stay in EDI, there will be less time to game.

Greetings from the Madison Office Hello to all from the Madison office! We had a very good 2018 with record earnings. 2019 is off to a great start, as we set an earnings record for the month of January, despite a visit from the Polar Vortex and multiple snow storms. We thought we’d share updated bios of everyone in the office that contribute to our office’s success. We currently have the largest staff we’ve ever had with 18 team members. Here is the Madison team: Jodie Moroni – Broker’s Assistant (Senior CS Rep) I have lived in Wisconsin my whole life and after this winter, I’m not sure why. In my family is my husband, Del, and son, Hunter plus one very cute doggy, Molly. Hunter is in his fourth semester at Madison College studying engineering. He plans to transfer to either UW Madison or UW Platteville next year. Molly is a Brittany Spaniel and is 15 years old which is old for a british hunter. I like to travel while Del enjoys staying close to home to hunt and fish, but he is going to start travelling soon, even though he doesn’t know it yet. All of us enjoy summer by hiking and having bonfires in the backyard at night while usually listening to the Brewers on the radio. I’m really looking forward to the nice warm days of summer. Dave Comber – Manager I was born in the Chicago area but was raised and lived most of my life in Wisconsin, so I’m a real cheese head at heart. I’ve been with our office for over 17 years and have about 25 years of transportation experience. I’ve been married to my wife, Tammy for over 16 years and we have two children, Michael, 14 and Jaclyn, 12. I’ve always been a sports enthusiast. I played varsity basketball for four years and varsity baseball for two years while in college at Lawrence University in Appleton, WI. My kids inherited my enthusiasm for athletics, as we spend much of our free time (and money) following my son’s travelling basketball and baseball teams and my daughter’s soccer and basketball teams. As expected, our favorite teams are the Wisconsin Badgers, Green Bay Packers, Milwaukee Brewers, and the Milwaukee Bucks!

Sandra Dickman – Broker’s Assistant (Inside Sales Coordinator) I have worked in our office for almost 15 years. I live in Madison with my boyfriend, Tony and our cat, Butter. I like to stay active with as many outdoor activities as possible. I enjoy kayaking, hiking, running, biking, and snowshoeing. In my spare time I enjoy travelling, grilling out, and going to Brewers, Packers, and Badger games. Mariet Marks – Broker’s Assistant (CS Rep) I was born and raised in Sweden and came here as an exchange student my senior year of high school in Waunakee, WI where I met my future husband, Ryan. After living back in Sweden for a couple of years, I returned to the states to get married and have been here ever since. I have been in the Madison office since 2004 and part of ALC since 2014. Ryan and I have two cats, Maja and Sofia. I love to travel to see my family in Sweden and friends in Europe. My interests are cooking, gardening, reading, swimming, and bicycling. I like watching Badgers Hockey and World Cup Soccer. Eric Alexander – Transportation Broker Like Dave, I’m a Chicago expat that has lived most of my life in Wisconsin. I went to college at UW Madison and fell in love with the city, which is basically the perfect size. I’ve been in our office since May 2005, so going on 14 years. I’m a lifelong board gamer and RPG player. In the summer at lunch I’m the one feeding the chipmunks on the office grounds (yes, some of them do come when I call them now.) On and off I keep mice as pets but am currently taking a break from it since my most recent mouse, Eddie passed away from old age. Kyiel Kovach – Transportation Broker I recently celebrated my fifth anniversary with ALC and have worked in the logistics/transportation industry for almost 10 years. I come from a manufacturing, warehousing background and am constantly amazed at the technological advances in our everyday work environment that have been made since I began here. I still keep a quarter in my car in case I need to make a phone call while I am out. I have been happily married for more than 20 years and I am pleased to say that two children are out of the house with the other two almost there. My wife is an interior renovator and has a great website showing her work (shameless plug but there is a reason it has been 20 years). I believe in Big Foot, UFO’s and that everyone can make a difference if they want to.

Mike Meyer – Operations Manager I am an Iowa native who relocated to the Madison area eight years ago to be with my wife, Amanda and have been working in the transportation brokerage industry ever since. While in Iowa I had six years of experience managing a liquid and bulk storage facility. I have been married for six years and have a three- year-old son, Miles and a one-year-old daughter, June. In our free time we enjoy being outside; hiking, fishing, and boating. Ben Tinker – Assistant Manager Born in Madison, I have lived in Wisconsin my entire life. I have been married for nine years to my wife, Heather and have four rambunctious kids. Madeline and Olivia are seven years old and identical twins. Owen is five years old and 100% boy. His favorite movie right now is Sandlot. Grant was born on 12/23/18 and is seven weeks old. He is enjoying long naps and snuggles with anyone willing to hold him. I have been in this office for seven years and in the transportation industry for 13 years. I am a diehard fan of everything University of Wisconsin and am three years into my unsuccessful obsession with golf. Gail Meyer – Accounting Supervisor I’ve been in the brokerage trucking business for nine years with the last five years at ALC. I’ve been married to my husband, Dave, for 29 years and have three children and one grandchild. I enjoy walking, cooking, baking, sewing, and crocheting in my spare time. Jason McFarlane – Transportation Broker I have worked at ALC for over five years. I live in “The Only Waunakee in the World” (a village in Dane County) with my wife, Elise and our two daughters, Abigail (6) and Anna (4). My family enjoys watching and playing sports. We love cheering on our Packers, Brewers, Badgers, Bucks, and when we aren’t watching our teams play, we enjoy playing a few sports ourselves. Abby and Anna are both in swimming and gymnastics and I am currently on a bowling team with some others in the office and play softball. The girls and I collect Lego’s and video games, keeping our huge collection of both in our basement. Ethan Noles – 2 nd /3 rd Shift Transportation Broker I have worked for the Allen Lund Company for almost two years. I am married to my wife, Amanda and have three stepchildren, Abria, Chaya, and Eliam. I enjoy hanging out with my family whether it is a trip out or just something at home plus watching movies as well as sporting events.

Mike Kessler – BDS I’ve been with ALC for five years. I grew up in Wisconsin and have lived in the Madison area for most of my life. My wife, Justine and I have been married 15 years and have a nine-year-old daughter, Natalie. Together we enjoy cheering on all the Wisconsin sports teams (of course), travelling (usually to somewhere warmer than Wisconsin which is almost everywhere), and going for walks with our dog, Rosie. Now, we also spend many weekends at the pool for swim meets since Natalie has become immersed in the world of competitive swimming. We also enjoy movies and spending time with friends. Beau Thompson – BDS I was born and raised in a small town in Illinois where the culinary delicacy is gas station pizza (Casey’s General Store – you gotta try the taco pizza). Then I moved to a larger town with stop lights and chain pizza restaurants where I worked as a sports director at several radio stations. In 2010, I was featured in a Sports Illustrated column for broadcasting 153 high school basketball games in a 16 week period. Following my foray in radio, I worked as the Director of the Leatherneck Sports Network at Western Illinois University while also going back to school for a degree in marketing. This is where I met Dr. Jim Kenny and was introduced to ALC. I married my wife, Amy in 2017 and we have a dog named Biscuit. In my free time, I collect Chicago Cubs baseball memorabilia that includes a collection of more than 258,000 Cubs baseball cards and more than 300 autographed baseballs. James Westphal – Transportation Broker I’ve been married for 14 years to my wife, Jackie and have two amazing children, Camron (10) and Elise (5). I enjoy spending time travelling with my family, plus cooking, art, and I am an avid gamer. I attended Loras College where I studied studio art and art history. After college I moved to Madison where I worked in sales for Game Stop, in addition to sales and operations management at Best Buy before coming to work for the ALC Madison office. Jeff Olson – Transportation Broker I was born in a very small town by Green Bay, WI called Gillett. I grew up on a small dairy farm with five brothers and sisters, which my oldest brother still operates as a much larger dairy farm today. Needless to say, most of my days as a kid revolved around doing chores as the cows never took a day off. When I graduated from high school, I decided to get out of farming and attended a local university. I earned my Bachelor of Science Degree in Mass Communications with a minor in Coaching from the University of Wisconsin-

Stevens Point. My dream was to always be a sports broadcaster but I learned after a few years in the industry that it’s very tough to make a living so I decided to look at other careers which landed me in the logistics field. I have been with the Allen Lund Company for just over 1.5 years and have worked in logistics for almost 15 years. During my free time, I like to keep track of all of the local sports teams as I’m a huge sports nut so anytime the Badgers, Packers, Brewers, Bucks, etc. are on TV, I am usually tuned in. When I’m not watching sports, I am usually participating in them. Basketball and golf are my favorites but I’m pretty much up for anything. My wife and I just got married in 2017 and were blessed with a sweet baby granddaughter, so a lot our free time is spent with her and the rest of the family. Darryl Krecji – Transportation Broker I was born in Milwaukee but grew up in Thiensville, a small village just north of Milwaukee. I now live in Lake Mills and have stayed in Wisconsin my entire life except for the five years I attended the University of Minnesota. I am a die-hard Packer, Brewer, Bucks, Gophers, and Admirals fan. I have two wonderful children, Angel (16) and AJ (14) who are my pride and joy. I am heavily involved in middle school and high school athletics. I spent the last three years coaching youth football and am the vice president of the Lake Mills Booster Club. In my free time I enjoy bicycling, ethnic festivals, spending time with my family, friends, and girlfriend, Kimberly. Kris Cramer – Transportation Broker I grew up in the Waukesha, WI area and went to high school in Mukwonago. I currently live in Cottage Grove, WI with my girlfriend, Tiffany. I have been working in logistics for the last 13 years. In my free time I enjoy playing hockey and my favorite team is the STL Blues. I also own a Harley-Davidson so I enjoy riding around the Madison/Milwaukee area during the warmer months. Kristi Blum – Transportation Broker in Training I joined ALC in December 2018 after 16 years with RR Donnelly. I was raised in rural South Central Wisconsin by my father, a trucking owner operator and mother, a dairy farmer. I reside in SC Wisconsin with my husband of 18 years, Brady, a custom crop farmer and two boys, Logan (16) and Collin (13). Our boys are three sport athletes and when we’re not running to practices, team dinners, and games, we enjoy spending time together going on ranger rides, horseback rides, tractor pulls plus fishing and family camping trips. I stay active in our school district and community by serving as our Athletics Booster Club President as well as participating in mental health and suicide workshops and fundraisers. I look forward to what the future holds for both my family and my new ALC work family.

Aseer Hanif 1) If yo u could choose your age forever, what age would you choose and why? 21, because I can be living on my own and still have the athletic ability to do whatever I want. The more you age, the slower you become. I would still be able to do all adult things in life and still feel fine the next day. LOL. 2) If you were to create a slogan for your life, what would it be? Life happens, learn to overcome your challenges to become a better you. 3) If you could be in the movie of your choice, what movie would you choose and what character would you play? I would choose a Marvel movie and be Black Panther. I love Marvel and the comics, so to be in one of the movies would make my childhood dreams come true. Lindsay Newton 1) If you could choose your age forever, what age would you choose and why? I think a range is better than a specific age but since I have to choose I would say 35, legally able to drive, drink, rent a car, run for office and old enough to be taken seriously! Sounds good to me! 2) If you were to create a slogan for your life, what would it be? Princess Bride accounting version: "My name is Lindsay Newton. You have not paid your bills. Prepare to die." 3) If you could be in the movie of your choice, what movie would you choose and what character would you play? Lord of the Rings: I would be happy as a hobbit in the Shire AFTER the war is over. A peaceful life with seven meals a day sounds perfect to me! It’s my favorite, is that bad??!!!!

The greatest pleasure in life is doing what people have said you could not do. 3) If you could be in the movie of your choice, what movie would you choose and what character would you play? X-Men - Jean Grey (aka Phoenix). Amanda Pina 1) If you could choose your age forever, what age would you choo se and why? 31, you are young enough to be/act young yet old enough to know better and have your feet on the ground. It is also the year I started ALC, yet I did not think of this until I was finished with my initial answer. 2) If you were to create a slogan for your life, what would it be? Be a nice human. 3) If you could be in the movie of your choice, what movie would you choose and what character would you play? Hermione Granger - this muggle was not only a

great and loyal friend, she was never afraid to speak her mind and always stood up for herself. Magic was very natural to her and was invited to Hogwarts to learn the craft. Although Hermione was different from everyone at Hogwarts she never gave up and always excelled in the craft of doing good things. Matt Minthorn (Phoenix) is an assistant coach for his son, Samuel’s travel hockey team. They lost only three games out of 20 and won two tournaments. They won in Lake Placid, NY beating a team from Guelph, Ontario and then won the Arizona Thanksgiving Shootout, beating a team from Winnipeg 2-0.

Brian Lam (Cleveland) shared these pictures from a storm on the shores of Lake Erie, only five minutes from his house. CBS morning news and the Weather Channel featured these pictures.

Ty Tallakson (San Francisco) with sons, Ben and Joe at Mammoth Ski Resort on President’s weekend. Winds were 50 mph and it snowed continuously. In addition, Ben and fiancée Angelina Bennici got engaged on January 18 th .

When a car got stuck in the Madison office parking lot on February 12 th after an eight inch plus snowfall, two ALC employees, Ben Tinker and Mike Kessler plus some good Samaritans were able to push the car out.

The Costco Water Adventure By: Bill Bess, Carrier Development

Shaun Leiker (Orlando) and I assisted in the salvage of 36,768 bottles (45,379 pounds) of Kirkland water from a trailer that went over a Jacksonville bridge and landed on its roof in about four feet of muddy water. The trailer could not be lifted with the bottles in it because it had been compromised from flipping off the bridge. The environmentalists were all over this and our #1 customer was getting negative hits on social media as a few of the bottles with labels began floating down the river. This was a full blown emergency that involved the entire ALC executive team, Costco’s upper management, Captain Hook (Shaun) and of course, Captain Nemo (me). In less than 24 hours we arranged for six men in wet suits, two 28 foot flat bottom boats, two 30 foot roll out dumpsters, and supplies (knives, trash bags, and dry suits). It was raining with strong winds and the water was 55 degrees. We estimate that each man cut and bagged over 7,000 water bottles filling 214 trash bags! After 20 hours of cutting bottles I finally cut the neck off the last bottle and drank it dry, it was truly refreshing. Our #1 customer had to be impressed with ALC’s response time and effort. What an excellent example of team work and good old “ALC American Ingenuity”!

The Cardinal Manning Center is a homeless shelter in Los Angeles, CA. It opened in 1955 and offers a comprehensive program for homeless men transitioning off the streets and into housing.

At headquarter’s a food drive was held during the month of February for Feeding San Diego. The donations received became a part of ALC’s annual managers’ meeting teamwork activity.

For ALC's annual managers’ meeting teamwork activity, coordinated by TeamBonding, each team went to different locations solving clues and collecting food item tokens for their care packages. In the end, the true winners were those that received much needed food from Feeding San Diego.

Growing Home ~ Denver

“The Denver office was lucky enough to team up with Noosa Yoghurt to provide both non refrigerated and refrigerated food supplies along with personal care items for the pantry at Growing Home. Growing Home works to house homeless families with children under the age of 18 and provide basic necessities to reverse the downward spiral of homeless families. Presently, Growing Home is working with 112 families in the greater Denver area. The services offered to families are structured to each family’s specific needs. Parenting classes, health screening, immunization as well as GED and English speaking classes are a few of the services offered. Temporary housing and transition into more permanent housing is a large part of their program as well.” Brodie Donaldson
